Daniel "Dan" White (born: October 1, 1990 (1990-10-01) [age 33][1]), better known online as danooct1, is an American YouTuber who is famous for his videos about computer malware. He currently lives in Dallas, Texas. His most popular video is Trojan.JS.YouAreAnIdiot. He is in a relationship with a girl who uses the online alias PsychoFizz, who has a daughter. The username, danooct1, is a combination of his family nickname, "Dano" and his birthday, October 1st.

He used to collaborate with fellow colleagues at MalwareUp and RogueAmp. RogueAmp and Danooct1 made a channel together named AmpDan1 to host more collaborations between the two. However, as of 2021, the AmpDan1 channel and the MalwareUp website no longer exists, and RogueAmp dropped his internet presence.

History[]

Daniel started learning about viruses in 2004, after his computer was infected by the Sasser worm.[2] 4 years later, on November 1, 2008, Daniel uploaded the first video to his channel, named Happy99 Windows Worm. Dan later remade this video in 2011, Email-Worm.win32.Happy99.

Daniel didn't start narrating videos until the Abraxas DOS Virus video, in March 2009. Daniel describes in his 2014 remake of Abraxas his older "shaky cam" style of videos as "just silent, they were me holding a camera, and I just kinda pointed it arbitrarily at the screen and just hoped the viewer would read the description and figure out what I was doing". He further explains that he wouldn't test the malware beforehand, instead saying that he would "read about them, and just go". He shares that the Abraxas virus was an instance of MS-DOS viruses scaring him, pointing out that the camera shaking as the virus payload played out in the original video was the virus making him jump due to how loud it was.

He later created a series called Viewer-Made Malware, where his viewers could create malware and submit it to be potentially seen in a video in this series. The series was discontinued as Dan said that he doesn't want to condone creation of that kind of software. Popular pieces of malware to be created from this series are the MEMZ Trojan (Flashing Lights Warning), YingYang and Resonate II, just to name a few of them.

Many viewers have tried to get Dan to tell them where he gets malware from, usually under the promise that they'll be "extra careful" with it. As of 2022, none have been successful in obtaining this information as Daniel refuses to tell, even making an accidental example that he "can't even trust [himself]" due to letting a piece of malware overwrite his shared Windows files in a video.[3]
