Description

"I'M NOT SHOOTING YOU, I'M MINING YOU"

- - -

No Man's Sky is an action-adventure survival video game developed and published by the indie studio Hello Games for PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows. The game was released worldwide in August 2016.

No Man's Sky is set in a procedurally generated deterministic open universe with over 18 quintillion randomly generated planets for players to explore and survive in. A player can submit the information they learn about the universe to The Atlas, a universal database that can be shared with other players of the game.

Players begin on a random planet on the edge of the universe as a planetary explorer called The Traveller equipped with survival equipment and a crashed spacecraft that requires repairing. Throughout the game as players explore they are able to acquire gear, tools and more powerful spacecrafts as well as collect resources, interact with lifeforms, and engage in space combat with aliens and other factions. The Traveller can die in a number of fashions, including by sustaining damage from a toxic or oxygen-less planetary environment, being attacked by dangerous lifeforms, or being destroyed in space combat with the space-faring factions or pirates seeking valuable cargo.

The game does not have an explicit goal but does encourage players to attempt to reach the center of the universe through its lore: planets located closer to the galactic center have more exotic and hostile environments, with more valuable resources and means to improve one's gear, urging exploration of these inner galactic regions.
