Youjo Senki's finale was fantastic, due in part to how the writers brought the narrative back around to the show's original premise through the use of parallels in dialogue. I believe that within these parallels lies the key to understanding the mistake of Being X. Let's break it down.
Additionally, I finally made my first video essay! This has been on my mind for a long time and I'm feeling really good about taking this first step. If you want to see more like this in the future, let me know by liking and subscribing!
1. For this essay, I'm going with the assumption that Being X is in fact God. That is to say, the God typically associated with Christianity or other monotheistic religions. I've heard a few different theories about the mystery of Being X, some implying polytheism, but in this context I'm best able to explain what the show is trying to convey by approaching it from this perspective.
2. I'm sticking with she/her pronouns throughout the video for the sake of simplicity and consistency.
3. My ears are currently numb from having my headphones on for so long and my eyes hurt from editing non stop for the last several hours. It's worth it though.
4. I realize that I completely butchered the pronunciation of "colonel". Normally I'm pretty good about double checking the pronunciation of words I don't regularly use in daily conversation since I read so much, but I guess one slipped through the cracks. I'll be more thorough next time around.
