Houssein[1] (born as Houssein Guney on June 3rd, 1999) also known by his full name Houssein South,[2] is a British Pop Singer. [3] He initially gained recognition in 2015, posting song covers on the video-sharing applications Youtube[4] and Vine.[5] His debut single '5 Bucks' was self-released in February of 2018 and reached the Top 100 in the UK iTunes charts.[6]

Personal Life

Houssein was born in London, England[7] to Diane Holliday and the late British-Turkish Cypriot businessman Ramadan Güney.[8] He attended Hoe Bridge School, a private academic school until the age of 13, where he obtained 12 Common Entrance Exams with straight A's and A*'s. He completed his education at home, with 11 GCSEs and 2 A Levels via online tutoring.

South was six years old when his father bought him a drum kit, and he believes that this sparked his initial interest in music, accompanied by his mothers encouragement for him to join the school choir.[9]

Career

South began his career at the age of 9, when he landed a role in the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang UK Tour, which lead to him securing a two-year deal with The Sound Of Music UK Tour.[10][11]

Post tours, he was introduced to Vine, where he saw his first online success, accumulating over 250 million views.[12] South then moved his focus towards the video social network app Musical.ly, where he amassed a combined 100 million interactions. [13] He is currently the most followed un-signed artist on the platform in the UK[14], and he has performed at multiple events in England[15], Florida[16], California, Washington D.C. and The Netherlands on behalf of the app .[17]

His debut single, '5 Bucks' was released in February of 2018.[18] It was well received by multiple online media sources and fans[19], receiving over 2 Million views on Musical.ly, and debuted in the Top 100 iTunes pop charts, but despite the online attention, it failed to break into the top 50 in the official UK charts. [20]

Artistry

South is a self-described pop singer[21], citing Justin Bieber, Green Day and Ed Sheeran as his main musical influences.[22]

In reference to Houssein's debut single '5 Bucks', The Sun noted that Houssein was "giving off an early Justin Bieber vibe, complete with his trademark hairdo."[23]
