Help me make fun of everything.

―Jack's slogan

John Patrick "Jack" Douglass[1] (born: June 30, 1988 (1988-06-30) [age 35]), better known online as jacksfilms, is an American YouTuber, sketch comic, and musician. He is known for his satirical comedy videos, parodies, and his series such as YIAY and Your Grammar Sucks. He has 4.96 million subscribers, an allotted 6.18 million subscribers across all his YouTube channels, and an allotted 2.82 billion views across all his videos from all his youtube channels.

Personal life[]

Jack was born in Columbia, Maryland, to his parents, David and Donna Douglass. He is primarily of Irish ancestry. He has two older sisters: Eileen and Kathleen. He would develop an interest in music, learning to play the French horn and most notably, the piano. This led to him to producing his own films. One notable video was "The WTF Blanket", a parody on Snuggie, which gained millions of views and was also featured on CNN.[2] After a month, he would start uploading his videos onto YouTube. Jack would attend American University, where he majored in film and minored in music theory.

On January 1, 2017, Douglass became engaged to his longtime partner Erin Elizabeth Breslin (born June 27, 1987). The couple married on April 21, 2018. They both own three American Eskimo dogs: their names are Klondike, Sundae, and Chipwich.

Series[]

Your Grammar Sucks[]

Your Grammar Sucks (abbreviated as YGS) was a series started by Jack on June 20, 2011, where he makes fun of people's hilariously incorrect grammar and misspellings. An episode would be uploaded every Friday, which would become a running joke it's inconsistent schedule and its eventual ending.

On October 30, 2015, Jack uploaded a trailer to YGS #100, an hour-long special featuring 52 fellow YouTubers. The episode was released on November 20, 2015. Jack has also announced that no other YGS specials would be made as he wants to prioritize on his other content.

The series went on a hiatus until November 24, 2017, when he started consistently uploading YGS episodes every Friday. Jack decided in 2019 to fully bring back YGS, with him planning to upload episodes every end of the month for 2020. However, Jack decided to end the series due to repetitive burnout, and wanting to work on other series.

On May 7, 2021, Jack uploaded YGS #128, announcing the return of the series, along with JackAsk and YIAY's new blind format. Jack promised to return back to the supposed schedule, which he did for a couple of episodes, but the series would abruptly pause with no episodes ever since.

JackAsk[]

JackAsk is a Q&A-style series— the name parodying the MTV series, Jackass— where Jack answers questions. The show itself is a parody as he mixes series and facetious questions in sarcastic and humorous ways. As with YGS's schedule, JackAsk's also had an inconsistent upload rate.

On October 21, 2020, Jack announced that he will be ending the series after being tired of the format[3], stating that the lack of variety was "killing him"[4]. He would upload the last episode on October 26, 2020.[5] However, on May 12, 2021, JackAsk would return with the 'blind' format, where Jack would put answers on a board and open them up[6], similar to WIRED's influencer Q&A series.

The series, along with YIAY, would be moved to the second channel jackisanerd in August 2023.[7]

Parody, Music Video, Sketch[]

Parody, Music Video, Sketch (abbreviated as PMS) is a series of what is stated. He does either one of these in each episode of PMS. Ever since YGS 25, he has sometimes made either a music video or sketch for certain YGS.

GamerGod88[]

A parody series of popular YouTube Let's Plays. Jack takes on the persona of GamerGod88, a character that seems to be awful and unacknowledged in the field of gaming. GamerGod88 also has a distinct voice that makes the character unique to the regular Jack, sounding dumber and more immature. The most popular GamerGod88 videos are fake Let's Plays of Flappy Bird, God of War, Minecraft, and Five Nights at Freddy's, and a fake game called "Undress the Girl". Occasionally the show features guest stars such as Markiplier, Tobuscus, MsBreezy, Olga Kay and McGoiter. A new episode hasn't been uploaded since October 25, 2014.

His wife Erin has been nicknamed "GamerGirl1616" in correlation to Jack's persona.

Yesterday, I Asked You[]

YIAY first originated in his second channel, jackisanerd, on February 2, 2015, when he announced the name of the series. "YIAY" stands for "Yesterday I Asked You". On February 15, 2015, he announced at the end of a video that this series was going to be moved to the main channel and that it wasn't going to replace any of his other video schedules but it would simply be added on top of everything else. This series consists of Jack asking his fans a question, then picking his favorite answers to feature on the next video. He also puts a clip from the previous episode at the end of each video.

People commonly overuse "a light switch" somewhere in their answer as Jacksfilms has started this joke in an earlier YIAY episode. Other ongoing jokes featured in YIAY include Jack's abnormally large forehead, rare pepes, the word "yaaass", Jaden Smith's tweets, calling Jack short, ironically enjoying the Emoji Movie (for which he got invited to the movie's world premiere), and his recurring sponsors (Audible, Loot Crate, and LinkedIn Learning (formerly Lynda.com)), and various memes. Another joke was about how he had not reached 2 million subscribers; however, as of November 21, 2015, Jack achieved 2 million subscribers, by which point the joke became about how he had not reached 3 million subscribers. As of July 27, 2017, he has also reached 3 million subscribers, making both jokes obsolete. Jack currently has almost 5 million subscribers.

In March 2016, Jack announced that YIAY would be scaled back from five episodes a week to being posted on Tuesdays and Thursdays so he would have time to work on other series on his channel. In the 300th episode of YIAY, Douglass asked his viewers to submit verses for "Alexander Hamilton 2", a follow up to his popular parody.

In mid May 2020, YIAY 500 was uploaded. It was an hour long episode with multiple questions and excerpts from his Twitch show "Are You Funnier Than A YouTuber".

On August 21, 2023, he announced that YIAY would end on the main channel and asked "What should be on YIAY's tombstone?"[8] It would instead be brought back to jackisanerd along with JackAsk.[7]

YIAY LIVE[]

YIAY LIVE is a live game show streamed on Jack’s Twitch account very similar to YIAY. There are five rounds in which Jack asks the audience a question as he would on YIAY, then he selects five answers to feature, and the audience votes by typing the number of their chosen answer in the Twitch chat. After the first four rounds are complete, the winner of those rounds compete in round five, an exclusive question only they can answer. The participant that gains the most votes in the final round is the winner and will get a prize. YIAY LIVE was first announced on August 27, 2018, in Jack’s YIAY episode "My Big, Fat Announcement. (YIAY #440)" and usually took place on Jack’s Twitch channel two times per week (Tuesday and Friday).

There are different types of questions Jack can ask for each round.

  • Round 1: Regular YIAY question.
  • Round 2: Will be one of these four types: In Just 4 Words, Roses Are Red Violets Are Blue, Alexander Hamilton, and Keep it Clean (same premise as KidzBopify It). All of these types are based on recurring themes in YIAY.
  • Round 3: Are You Funnier Than a YouTuber, a regular YIAY question is asked, four answers are selected from participants and one is a pre-written answer by Jack although the audience is not aware until after voting.
  • Round 4: Random selection of either Acronyms, Fix This Bio, Fake Facts, or Clickbait It.
  • Round 5: The Best of The Best, a regular YIAY question is asked but only the previous four winners can compete. The previous winner with the most votes wins the show.

YIAY LIVE! LIVE![]

YIAY LIVE! LIVE! is a 2021 tour based on YIAY and YIAY LIVE. Prior to the tour, he held the same show before at the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles on November 18, 2019.

The tour was previously scheduled to be held throughout May 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced to have the tour rescheduled. The rescheduling of the tour was announced in a video on May 1, 2020. The tour was later rescheduled a second time, with the new dates announced on April 20, 2021. It finally started on November 8, 2021 on Varsity Theater in Minneapolis and ended on January 22, 2022 on Aztec Theatre in San Antonio.

Fix your _____[]

A series in which Jack jokingly "fixes" or "improves" submitted pictures (Fix your Pix [sic]), Twitter bios (Fix your Twitter Bios) as well as some one-off episodes. This series was brought out in YIAY occasionally, with videos such as "Fix your Life".

Fortnite Funnies[]

A series where Jack plays Fortnite. The videos about the series appeared to be highlights of Jack's streams. He occasionally plays Roblox at times.

It was announced on YIAY #481 that he would start the series by subscribing to him,[9] which he did on September 20, 2019.[10] However, the series was most likely a one-off and he hasn't released any new episodes since.

Royalty Free Christmas Songs[]

An annual series where Jack makes some joke songs mostly related to Christmas. It started on December 10, 2014, and there have been 9 episodes, with the latest one being uploaded on December 21, 2022. The ninth edition of RFCS was released alongside a compliation of the previous eight volumes.

JJJacksfilms[]

JJJacksfilms is a channel created to satirize reaction videos, specifically from Alia Shelesh (SSSniperWolf) with her untransformative reaction content. The channel started in October 26, 2022 with an announcement video on the main channel, with Jack sarcastically stating that he made the channel after reported news of SSSniperWolf buying a mansion. This is a reference to an inside joke from Jack and his wife, Erin, who have desires to own a mansion.

The channel initially started with Jack reacting to various videos from primarily reaction creators, mainly on SSSniperWolf, with his thumbnails being based on her thumbnail format. The videos primarily consist of Jack constantly pausing and unnecessarily explaining random moments from the videos. Throughout the channel, Jack started putting clones of himself, usually doing something else such as eating, drinking, or using their phone. Jack aimed to do daily uploads but stopped posting due to repetitiveness and being busy with other projects.

On June 22, 2023, Jack and Alia would get into a back-to-back argument on Twitter, started by Jack who simply tweeted a screenshot of @YouTubeCreators from Twitter stating that SSSniperWolf gets her ideas from fans, and a screenshot of SSSniperWolf's uploads. This argument would result in Jack posting a response video titled, "Let's tttalk about Sssniperwolf." which properly talks about the problems of Alia's content, and how she's freebooting off hundreds, if not, thousands of creators. At the end of the video, Jack announced that he would bring back and repurpose JJJacksfilms, to ranking SSSniperWolf's reaction with a letter grade, and would also live stream them on Twitch. Twitter user @Pieosaurus3 would tweet out a SSSniperWolf Bingo card which Jack would use for his videos later on, usually giving Bingo winners a gifted Twitch subscription.

On October 13, 2023, Jack stated on Twitter that YouTuber SSSniperWolf has doxxed and stalked him while he was inside streaming on Twitch. After he was seeing comments on his stream, he abruptly stopped the stream. See the "controversies" section on SSSniperWolf's page for more information.

After a 2 week silence since his last tweet (and last video on the channel) regarding the doxxing situation[11], November 3, 2023 would be the day Jack returns with a video titled "What comes next"[12] (not discussing/talking about SSSniperwolf) stating that the JJJacksfilms channel would be re-purposed into a "creator workshop", that would critique creator-submitted videos.

Other projects and channels[]

Jack is well known for his collaborations with other famous YouTubers. These include RoomieOfficial, Tobuscus, SeanKlitzner, DailyGrace, PewDiePie, TheFineBros, McGoiter, and many more. He worked with the Fine Brothers, acting as "Intern 2" on their show, MyMusic.

Jack has worked with his closer YouTube friends, Tobuscus and Sean Klitzner to create the musical group, "The Sideburns Crew", having two songs out (not including the YGS 100 song). "The Sideburns Song", which was uploaded to Tobuscus's channel and "The Valentine's Day Song", uploaded to Jacksfilms.

Jack also has four other channels: "jackisanerd" where he posts up vlogs and "SHUTUPDENNIS" for his more random, quicker videos, although he never seems to use the latter channel anymore. He also has a channel where he posts short scenes from other videos, called "catlvr6969". He also owns another account called "featuredfridays" which is where he did his featured channels instead of in the outro.

Jack used to be a contestant on a game show called Photobomb, which he hosts. The game show is featured on the Door3 channel. He also hosted the series Jack Talks Trailers on the Regal Cinemas channel.

As of 2017, there is a piece of "drama" going on between him and popular YouTuber PewDiePie. The drama consists of the two arguing over who created such terms as "squad fam" first and who copied who: PewDiePie with his series LWIAY (Last Week I Asked You) and Jacksfilms with his series YIAY. Of course, both of the parties are friends and Jack was the one to both make YIAY and use the term "squad fam". They both enjoy the hate they get from the opposite parties fans not understanding the joke, going as far as to start fake arguments on Twitter.

Be Funny Now[]

Be Funny Now is a competitive party game released on May 17, 2022 developed by Galvanic Games and New Beings, and published by jacksfilms himself. In this game, players write and draw their funniest answers to an ever-growing list of hundreds of questions, and then judge their peers’ work. Players can play with friends in private lobbies, or get started immediately in a public lobby for 2-8 player action.

It is available for free on computers (via Steam) and phones. Unlike most free-to-play games, it will be free from any microtransactions and/or cosmetics that help you win the game.

Personal life[]

He is currently married to Erin Elizabeth Breslin (since April 21, 2018), his longtime girlfriend. Jack and Erin met in December 2012, and he proposed on their fourth anniversary at the place they first met. Jack's content usually has him ironically making fun of current trends in some shape or form. Erin is a fan of the musical "Hamilton" and is known to sing numbers from the show for elongated periods. This likely led to Douglass making his "Alexander Hamilton" parody in late 2016.

He and Erin own three female toy American Eskimo dogs, Klondike, Sundae, and Chipwich.[13]

Jack previously dated Kristen Klessig. She is almost 30 years old, and works as a bar waitress part-time. She lived in Maryland while Jack lived in California. They maintained a well-rounded long distance relationship before breaking up in late 2012, stated in a video named "We broke up".[14] She was featured in many Jacksfilms videos, most frequently at the end of videos. Usually, Jack would introduce himself and when Kristen would try to do so, he would interrupt her.

Klondike inspired Douglass to create a new line of merchandise, Be a Klondike, a semi-satirical dig at Logan Paul's "Be a Maverick" clothing line, featuring images of the Eskimo dog.

Inside jokes[]

  • Refers to his fans as "famsquad" and "squadfam", a reference to how YouTubers used to refer to their fans. He also refers to them as "biches", which is spelled along with the German's 'ch' pronunciation.
  • He has shown his love for the Shrek franchise, his hatred for Shrek The Third, and his desires of the 5th installment of the movies.
  • He has sarcastically obsessed his love for the movie, "The Emoji Movie"
    • This would unexpectedly result in Jack receiving a letter from Sony inviting him to attend the red carpet premiere of the movie.
  • Jack's fans lightheartedly make fun of his forehead, some photo manipulating his forehead to be longer, or in certain circumstances, would use the forehead as a background for video submissions.
  • In a YIAY episode, Jack asked the question, "What turns you on/off?". A majority of the answers were "light switch", which became an inside joke.
  • "Me me big boy" initialized in a short video where Jack called a scam landline, only responding "Me me big boy". The video would get an animated version.
    • A parody of YIAY was created where everything Jack and the comments said was "me me big boy"
  • "Protein shake", is a parody of HowToBasic, where Jack teaches how to create a protein shake. Every step would result in him adding more protein powder to the mixture.
  • "Twitter for Android" is a song created by Jack which contains a years-worth of stacked screenshots of tweets, to form a slideshow illusion.
    • The tweet started when Twitter added a discriminator for tweets, labeling tweets on what device they were posted on. When people made fun of him for using an Android phone, Jack would post the tweet, "Twitter for Android". The next day, he screenshotted that tweet and posted it with the caption "Twitter for Android", and that cycle continued. He aimed to do this for a whole year.
    • Initially, the goal was to see a year-amount of tweets in a single screenshot. However as March came around, the screenshots started to become indistinguishable from each other. This sparked the idea for Jack to instead turn it into a song, changing the captions to be in sync with the song lyrics.
  • In Jack's series Fix Your Flags, Jack has a hatred of the flag of Nepal, due to it being vertical as opposed to the other flags which are horizontal.
  • "The Pizza Planet Truck from Toy Story" originated from a TikTok where Jack ranked the "Top 10 Mistakes in Movies That You Probably Missed". Every single entry except the ending was him crying over the Pizza Planet truck from Toy Story appearing in every Pixar movie, claiming it is a mistake other than an Easter egg.
