―Channel description

JOTED GEMS!

―Running mispronunciation of "Jaltoid Games"

Jaltoid is a YouTube duo consisting of American animators, artists, and voice actors Dalton Joyce (born: September 13, 1991 (1991-09-13) [age 32]) and Emily "Emi" Kuc (born: March 25, 1994 (1994-03-25) [age 30]). The couple are best known for animations on their main channel satirizing aspects of popular culture, such as gaming, social media, fandoms, and YouTubers.

They have a secondary channel named Jaltoid Media consisting of Let's Play series under Jaltoid Games and miscellaneous videos, and were former hosts of the short-lived LazyCast podcast alongside DoopieDoOver and Jess "KamenJess".

History[]

Dalton met Emi through her profile on the website DeviantArt. Upon witnessing her voice acting, he requested for her to voice in a project he was producing. Overtime, the two became closer from their shared love of drawing and eventually met in person. Jaltoid originated from Dalton who is a former Newgrounds animator; however, the channel has become known for the efforts put forth by him and Emi.

Intended to be just for Dalton's use, the username Jaltoid evolved from his own name. As the two were unemployed, they focused on producing content for YouTube. Occasional live-action videos were inspired by The Tom Green Show, and YouTuber Nathan Barnett infamous for his character "Dad".

YouTube Animations and Popularity[]

On YouTube, the two realized that they could do better with animated shorts. Dalton being an Adobe Flash animator, and Emi honing her skills as a digital artist. They tested their collaborative skills with a seven-second video wishing their friend Clark a happy birthday. Dalton and Emi experimented with collaboration again through a short named Ded Oreo HD[1], featuring the first animated versions of the couple and a humorous story involving the accidental death of their cat. Animations and art featuring their animated personas soon became a consistent element on their social media profiles.

Animebabes

"World of Anime Babes" from Free to Play, satirizing MMORPGs

Throughout the 2010s, Dalton and Emi produced dozens of animated shorts for YouTube that met widespread acclaim and millions of views. Praised for their colorful artistry, quick turnaround, and commentary on then-popular topics like PewDiePie fans, prank channels, Overwatch, anime tropes, and gamer girls.

They also gained subscribers for animations featuring cute character designs and absurd humor, such as Billy Bob The Gamer, Opinion is Fact, I'm Ugly (Facebook Parody), E-Fame Survival Guide, and Team Desu. These were produced under the label of "Jaltoid Cartoons". In a video celebrating their five-year anniversary on the site, Dalton and Emi state they were able to make animations on YouTube their full-time job.

In 2015, the duo were invited to host a panel and booth at the convention Indy Pop Con, where they received a line of fans trailing out the door. Dalton and Emi reflected on this experience, stating there was not enough staff to control their crowd.

As explained in a Tumblr FAQ,[2] both claimed they stopped making animations as a result of the YouTube climate, generally affecting independent web animation across the platform in favour of long-form content. As content creating was their main career, they couldn't justify putting in the work for something that was no longer sustainable, opting instead to focus on their let's play channel and Patreon support.

Jaltoid Games[]

"Buhnanah."

―Running gag

On July 19, 2013, Dalton and Emi uploaded JaltoidGames Video Intro[3], which initiated the start of Let's Plays produced alongside animations. Starting with Nintendo Land for Wii U on August 2, 2013, the two continued to upload even when taking a hiatus from their main channel after their five-year anniversary. Their Let's Plays became notorious for their cartoony and suggestive thumbnails, sometimes unique for each episode of a consecutive series, Dalton and Emi's comically vulgar banter, and running gags.

Highlighted gameplay series include the Senran Kagura franchise, Snipperclips, Hello Kitty Roller Rescue, Fisher Price ABC's, Spyro, Mario, Shantae, Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion, and a video in which they play a Jaltoid fangame developed by a viewer.

After the channel was renamed Jaltoid Media, the two uploaded alternate videos featuring blind bag openings, drawing fans' profile pictures from a distance, "speedpaints" of art and thumbnails, and examining the Flash files of their old animations.[4]

LazyCast[]

Animeexpo

Podcast episode discussing Anime Expo 2017

On October 16, 2016, Dalton and Emi launched a comedy podcast named LazyCast, with their friends and subsequent couple Danielle "DoopieDoOver" Willow, known for her former association as an artist and host on the Planet Dolan and Super Planet Dolan channels, and Jess "KamenJess", whom for a time were living with Jaltoid. LazyCast was semi-weekly, uncensored, and hosted on its own YouTube channel. The podcast covered a range of topics, including the group's first impressions of Overwatch, childhood stories, convention experiences and artist alleys, cartoons, anime, and general life.[5]

The podcast had its own Patreon in which names of supporters would be read at the end of every episode, also offering a CD of the first season and exclusive AfterCast episodes, a couple of which were uploaded publicly in place of a new episode. One-off guests would be featured, including Dolan and Hellbent from Planet Dolan, SiIvaGunner, and Ross O'Donovan from Game Grumps and RubberNinja.

LazyCast ended abruptly with its one-year anniversary on November 9th, 2017, before being removed from several hosts. A sect of its episodes are considered lost media, along with most other videos featuring both Danielle and Jess.[6] Their Twitter accounts hinted at a fallout with Jaltoid behind the scenes.[7] Doopie also announced on Twitter that she and Jess had broken up in September of 2022, no longer in a relationship.

Present and Future[]

After posting a video to their Jaltoid Media channel on October 28, 2021, where they explore obscure anti-Pokémon websites, and becoming absent from Twitter in 2022, Dalton and Emi went inactive from their accounts across Jaltoid and their YouTube channels at large.

Continuing into 2023, Dalton and Emi posted under the artist username of plushpon on Tumblr, DeviantArt, Instagram, and Toyhouse.[8] On their accounts under plushpon, Dalton and Emi acquired new nicknames, Bun and Pawmie. The couple draw and auction off characters known as "adopts", being bought by online users.

They also previously went by the username YourNewWaifu where they produced NSFW and pin-up content, including short NSFW animations aided by a Patreon. The YourNewWaifu accounts have not been updated since July of 2021.

In January of 2024, the Jaltoid Twitter account (on X) became active, posting old clips and art.
