Hey what's up, guys, and welcome back to a brand new video on the GODDAMN internet.

―LeafyIsHere's old intro

Calvin Lee Vail (born: August 18, 1995 (1995-08-18) [age 28]),[1] better known online as LeafyIsHere (or simply Leafy), is an American internet personality residing in Utah. He is known for his commentary, reaction, and drama videos, along with popularizing the gameplay-commentary format. Although he is considered infamous and his content was heavily criticized, it soon led to his rise to fame on YouTube and the sudden popularity of similar commentary YouTubers. This genre is still used by many content creators today. Smaller commentary YouTubers have even dubbed him "The King of Commentary" on YouTube. He is considered to be one of the most influential internet personalities of all time.

Beginning in 2016, Vail was involved in several conflicts with other YouTubers which led to allegations of cyberbullying. YouTube terminated Vail's account in 2020, citing repeated violations of their harassment policies.[2][3]

Content

Calvin stopped uploading on YouTube on December 12, 2017, due to changes in YouTube's policies that affected his channel, and he expressed that he would be gone for the time being. On March 31, 2020, he posted a video responding to his drama with iDubbbzTV and his wife, Anisa Johma. Many people speculated that he would be returning to YouTube. However, in an interview by Keemstar from DramaAlert, Calvin says that he would only make videos for fun on his channel and post less frequently. Calvin continued to post unpredictably, mocking various social media dramas and situations.

On August 21, 2020, Calvin's channel was permanently terminated from YouTube for violations of YouTube's policy on harassment and bullying. A couple of days later, on August 23, Calvin's second channel was also terminated. Calvin subsequently moved to the streaming platform Twitch until his termination on September 11, 2020. Currently, Calvin is inactive with producing videos and occasionally still uploads rants on his Twitter and Instagram profiles, while doing live streams on Rumble.com.[4]

On December 15, 2020, Calvin was hired by a company named RedBloom LLC to create YouTube content for their channel Weafy, but was terminated shortly after on December 28, 2020. On April 16, 2021, Calvin's second Twitter account @Leafy, created in 2020 during his return on YouTube, was suspended.

On August 29, 2021, Calvin attempted to come back to YouTube despite still being permanently banned on a new channel called Lucky, on which he uploaded a video called "h3h3productions". The channel was terminated on September 3, 2021.

Personal Life

Calvin was born in Utah, United States, and claims to currently live there. He is of Swedish and Asian ancestry.[5]

YouTube History

Origins

Calvin started his YouTube channel originally posting Minecraft gameplay videos at the age of 16. He owned a ParaPVP Minecraft server. However, he angered a child, who ended up calling him a "butt muncher" and DDOSed his Minecraft server. Calvin, moved onto Counter Strike: Globe Official (CS:GO) gameplay, which helped his channel grow.

Content

Although the main focuses of Calvin's YouTube videos was his commentary, he often displayed gameplay footage in the background of his videos including various different video games, though most commonly the "surf" game mode in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, as well as games such as A Story About My Uncle, Doom, and Overwatch. He often posts controversial tweets for attention on Twitter.

As of 2023, Calvin streams on Rumble, where he usually reacts to different videos and makes anti-LGBTQ+ jokes. In a deleted livestream, he called himself the "Hitler of transgenders" and joked about a transgender holocaust.

Collaborations

Some of Calvin's fellow YouTuber friends include Keemstar, Colossal is Crazy, and GradeAUnderA, and he has collaborated with RiceGum.

On Rumble, Calvin often calls other streamers and controversial internet figures such as Nick Fuentes and SNEAKO and he occasionally calls some of his fans on Discord.

Controversies and feuds with other social media influencers

Feud with MrBlackDarkness666

In January 2016, Calvin video uploaded a video called "THE SADDEST MAN ON YouTube", where he talked about a YouTuber named MrBlackDarkness666, a depressed goth who was continuously harassed by different people, even little children.

He took Calvin's video as harassment, so he released a "LEAFYISHERE GO F**K YOURSELF". In the video, he talked about how his girlfriend broke up with him because she thought Calvin's video had a point. At the end of the video, he showed a printed photograph of Calvin, setting it on fire with a cigarette and ripping it apart, hoping it would scare Calvin into leaving him alone.

Eventually, Calvin responded with a video titled "THE SADDEST MAN ON THE INTERNET", which has been re-uploaded here. In the video, Calvin said that the video on MrBlackDarkness666 was not intended for harassment, and he apologized. However, he also said it was not his fault that his girlfriend broke up with him. Ultimately, the two appeared on Keemstar's show DramaAlert, where they apologized to each other.

Video about TommyNC2010 and Feud with Ethan Klein

On March 19, 2016, Calvin uploaded a video titled "THE MOST HEROIC FEDORA MAN ON YouTube", in which he talked about a YouTuber named TommyNC2010, who happened to be autistic. The video has been re-uploaded here. Later that day, Tommy uploaded a video titled "I am getting Death Threats LeafyIsHere, why?", in which he recorded himself crying and explaining how he was getting a lot of hate and death threats from Calvin's fans. This caused Ethan Klein of h3h3Productions to upload a now-unlisted video talking and ranting about this situation.

After Calvin was receiving backlash from Ethan's rant video, he soon took down his video about Tommy, and uploaded an apology video which was titled "Apology".[6] However, after Ethan's former rant about Calvin received over a million views, Calvin uploaded a response video stating that Ethan tried to side with Calvin, where he shows several text messages from h3h3Productions talking negatively about the YouTuber Pyrocynical, which Calvin later unlisted. Pyro eventually made two videos addressing the situation, the first of which he removed, and the other of which was titled "Let's Call it Quits #uniteyoutube".

Keemstar attempted to invite both parties to his DramaAlert webshow later on to discuss the matter, but failed. Ethan later apologized for his criticism towards Calvin, stating that the video was "too personal" and "making it seem that Leafy was his enemy." After this, Calvin started to include a disclaimer on his videos for fans to not "witch hunt" the people and content that he reviewed.

Feud with Keemstar

On June 13, 2016, Calvin uploaded a video titled "THE KEEMSTAR AND DRAMAALERT RANT", where he talked about how Keemstar was doing "some criminal shit", which included Keemstar threatening to release people's information if they criticized him. Calvin also talked about how he falsely accuses people of being a pedophile, with one such accusation being of making an old man cry while he was streaming on Twitch. Another point in the video was that Keemstar was being a hypocrite, according to Calvin.

When someone informed Keemstar that Calvin was going to upload a video regarding the false accusations of pedophilia, he told Calvin that if he would make a tweet or video about him and would release his direct messages with him. Calvin brought up that Keemstar was invading other people's privacy and revealing their faces. On July 4, 2016, Calvin's YouTube channel was hacked by a Twitter user named PoodleCorp, who changed the video titles of all of Calvin’s videos to "hacked by twitter.com/poodlecorp" and then leaked Calvin's nudes a year later.[7]

A few months after the first hacking scandal, Calvin was accused of botting subscribers three times. The first incident was when his and Colossal is Crazy's subscriber counts spiked on Social Blade. However, it turned out to be a glitch. The second time was when a YouTuber named Ecy claimed to have evidence of Calvin being registered on a subscriber-botting website and using it, in which Keemstar reported.[8] After Calvin proved the information to be incorrect, Keemstar told his audience the information was wrong. However, on the third incident, the hacker group OurMine hacked into his old Gmail account and found out that Calvin made a shorter link to a subscriber-botting website back in 2013, which he denied.

Keemstar then reported on the issue, claiming he wasn't accusing Calvin of botting subscribers. However, Keem stated that he was on a Skype call with Calvin asking for advice after iDubbbzTV's Content Cop on Keem caused his subscribers to decline. He claims that Calvin's response was "Well, you can bot the likes..." Calvin then made a statement about the situation, denying the accusations of him sub botting and claiming that the call between him and Keem never happened.

After Calvin's ex-animator HeyWatchYourMouth spoke out against him, stating that he wasn't paying him good enough and claiming that Calvin and GradeAUnderA backstabbed Keem, Calvin started getting hate and losing subscribers. In October 2016, Calvin and Keem made their first confrontation in months in a podcast episode from Baited!, with Colossal Is Crazy and Tommy C's SFTP in the same call. Keem accused Calvin of backstabbing him, lying about him and trying to ruin his career, meanwhile Calvin denies most of the claims. 5 arguments were brought up in the Baited! episode, 3 of which Keem won. Calvin only succeeded in a fourth and the fifth was tied. After the Baited! episode aired, Calvin gained more hate.[9]

In an interview with Keemstar on October 25, 2018, Keemstar asked Calvin about the controversy of him and GradeAUnderA attacking Keem, and Calvin said he did it for revenue. The drama was brought up yet again in August 2020, when Leafy was interviewing Keemstar on his Twitch series The Leafy Show (@TheLuckyShow on Twitter). He let the viewers submit their questions via the Twitch chatbox and one of them had mentioned the drama. Calvin and Keem then responded to the question by saying that the drama was staged as to bring Calvin's viewers to Keem's channel and Keem's to Calvin's. Whether Grade was also involved in this is still unknown.[10]

iDubbbz Content Cop

On September 12, 2016, iDubbbzTV uploaded a Content Cop video on Calvin, as part of his aforementioned series on YouTubers, criticizing his videos' for having a lazy format and using repetitive jokes to stretch them out (in iDubbbz's opinion). The video was centered on the existing jokes online about Calvin which portrayed him as a cyberbully, which led to the viral #NoChin meme which IDubbbz used throughout the video to mock the size of Calvin's chin. These jokes either being combined or used interchangeably and in a satirical nature, to mock Calvin's frequent defense of his videos being "satire", while using the type of jokes Calvin would make in his commentary videos (such as mocking a part of his appearance which he could not control).[11]

After iDubbbz's video, Calvin's subscriber-count began to fall drastically and eventually, according to SocialBlade, caused Calvin to lose 2,000 subscribers per day. Many, however, believe iDubbbz wasn't directly involved in this despite his popular video and Calvin's audience was slowly noticing subconsciously how repetitive Calvin's content was and was gradually starting to lose interest. iDubbbz was simply the last little push some of the audience collectively needed.

Another hypothesis presented by EmpLemon in one of his Youtube Geographic episodes states that YouTube themselves may have wanted Calvin's channel gone, citing an anecdote of a meeting held at YouTube where him and other drama commentary YouTubers were discussed. This may have been another reason for the YouTube Adpocalypse. He also cites how his statistics on Social Blade were already declining before the Content Cop, and claims that iDubbbz's video was used as a coverup.

"Expose" Videos

On October 2, 2016, HeyWatchYourMouth uploaded a video titled "The Real LeafyIsHere". In the video, HeyWatchYourMouth accused Calvin of not giving a shoutout, proper payment, or credit, when he worked on Calvin's videos. He also accused Calvin of telling him to make videos on h3h3Productions, and explained why Calvin and GradeAUnderA attacked Keemstar. The video that HeyWatchYourMouth made was later deleted, but has been reuploaded here.

The following week, on October 9, 2016, Calvin apologized to HeyWatchYourMouth for not giving enough credit or a shoutout, but the apology was not well met and caused him to lose thousands of subscribers daily, as well as having his viewership decline rapidly after the drama.

Inactivity

Calvin stopped uploading after December 12, 2017, with his last video being "this video will make you cry...", and has been re-uploaded here. He mentioned in the video that he hadn't been consistent in uploading as he lost motivation to upload. Fellow Commentary YouTuber NFKRZ made a video about Calvin's supposed hiatus, speculating that Calvin quit YouTube, as he was set for life. NFKRZ also said Calvin was no longer uploading because he was not active on Twitter anymore. However, Calvin later mentioned that his Twitter account was hacked[12] and he was locked out of the account and unable to regain access. It was also mentioned by YouTuber WildSpartanz that Calvin wasn't passionate about YouTube anymore and decided to quit.

On June 20, 2018, commentary YouTuber EmpLemon uploaded the video "Leafy Was Here". In it, he goes on to explain Calvin's YouTube career, from the beginning to the downfall. The video received widespread attention, getting over 3 million views. After being uploaded, some people started referring to Calvin as "LeafyWasHere" instead of "LeafyIsHere".

Keemstar Interviews

On October 18, 2018, Keemstar of DramaAlert posted on Twitter stating that he was going to interview Calvin[13], and uploaded a teaser for the interview on October 24.[14]

On October 25, 2018, the LeafyIsHere interview was uploaded.[15] When asked about what he'd been up to, Calvin said he had been making investments, which could mean that he's had some form of activity in the stock market, such as online trading for example. This was later confirmed almost a year and a half later on episode 3 of the Mom's Basement Podcast, when Keemstar says "For those of you that don't know, Leafy is heavily invested in the Stock Market, he's basically a stock trader." Keemstar also claimed in the podcast that Leafy took $2.5 Million of his YouTube earnings to invest in the stock market and made a lot of money.

Also during the interview, Keemstar brought up the drama that happened between them and asked Calvin why he and GradeAUnderA attacked him. Calvin replies, "AdSense was at an all-time high, but... and I can only speak for myself, obviously," admitting that he started the feud for the sake of money.

Partial comeback

In October 2019, Leafy changed his subscription box from having other YouTubers to one account called Crisp with the caption "LITTLE SISTER" above it. He's actually Leafy's younger brother. Afterwards, YouTubers started theorizing that Leafy might make a comeback featuring his brother. On January 26, 2020, Calvin changed his description, removed his brother's account from his subscription box, and removed his banner. He also posted on his community tab: "Was fun ride, Happy 2020 everyone!" He was also in Keemstar’s video "Leafy returns to YouTube to talk to Nick Avocado", where he talks to Nikocado Avocado about the situation of him getting disliked.

On March 31, 2020, Calvin premiered a video titled "idubbbz," which featured thirty seconds of him addressing his former critic. Since then, he was uploading one to two videos a week on an irregular schedule. The first few mainly addressed the people he had past negative interactions with. Why leafy decided to come back to the internet after all this time, we may never know.

Calling out iDubbbz

YouTuber iDubbbzTV, who has made a Content Cop against Calvin, had faced controversy due to his girlfriend creating an OnlyFans account and him expressing his approval of the ordeal.[16] Keemstar from DramaAlert later announced that Calvin might make a response to iDubbbz.[17] On March 31, 2020, Calvin made a 30-second video titled "idubbbz" mentioning that Ian (iDubbbzTV) "is a cuck". At the end of the video, Calvin stated that still does not like YouTube,[18] denying the possibility of a comeback.

Calling out Pokimane

On July 31, 2020, Calvin released a video titled "Content Nuke - Pokimane". Inspired by h3h3Production's "Content Nuke - Keemstar", which is itself a parody of iDubbbzTV's Content Cop series, the video called out Pokimane for copyright striking various videos that criticized her, such as It'sAGundam's video.

Discriminatory behavior on Twitter

On April 2, 2023, Calvin returned to Twitter with a tweet announcing that he is back while saying the n-word. This caused him to receive backlash from other Twitter users, as well as being called out by other commentary YouTubers such as Turkey Tom. Calvin has also claimed that YouTube is racist, due to him being half-asian.

Calvin also tweeted comments that were highly disrespectful towards the LGBTQ+ community. A few of the tweets said things such as "transgenders are fake", "fuck pride month", and "fuck trans kids". He also made a few pedophilia/grooming accusations against these communities and minorities. All of this caused him to receive backlash from Twitter users, especially those who are part of or support the LGBTQ+ community.[citation needed]

Beef with RiceGum

On July 12, 2023, Keemstar dropped a video talking about a possible boxing match between Calvin and RiceGum in the upcoming KSI-run Misfits 008 Boxing event. On Twitter, Keemstar released the video and said LeafyIsHere and RiceGum were mad at each other, because RiceGum refused to have a phone call with Leafy on his live stream. Leafy said RiceGum should call him because he gave RiceGum a shout-out and collaborated with him when he had 20k subscribers on YouTube. Leafy said he's jealous RiceGum has more followers than him 7 years later, and said he wants to say "congratulations" because RiceGum also signed a contract with Rumble a few months later after Leafy. RiceGum said he refused to talk to Leafy due to his controversial tweets about the LGBTQ+ community.[citation needed]

During a stream with Adin Ross, RiceGum openly expressed his lack of intention to rebuild a friendship with Calvin. Keemstar made a phone call to RiceGum and discussed the ongoing conflict, to which he expressed his openness to the idea of a fight against Leafy. Keemstar took it further by contacting Leafy to relay RiceGum's message. Upon receiving the message, Leafy also expressed his willingness to fight with RiceGum and called him a "race traitor" due to them being both Asian. Although Keemstar mentioned that the fight between Leafy and RiceGum may not be officially sanctioned, he ended the video by dropping a hint for fans to keep an eye out for the Misfits 008 event scheduled to take place on July 22, 2023.[19]

Reconciling

On Rumble.com, Calvin raided RiceGum's Rumble stream, RiceGum said he was tired of getting "terrorized" by Leafy, he then leaked Leafy's Discord DMs showing that Leafy asked for 1,000 USD to get bailed out of jail for a speeding ticket in Las Vegas. Leafy claimed RiceGum wanted him to get Raped in jail. RiceGum eventually called Leafy on Discord and they ended the drama they had with each other and became friends again. The boxing match was later cancelled.

Terminations and suspensions from social media

Rip leafy

Calvin's original channel after being terminated on August 21, 2020.

On August 21, 2020, the main channel was terminated due to "creating content designed to harass, bully or threaten". [20] After news broke out, Calvin made an interview with Keemstar, stating the situation. Many people speculated that some critical people behind the termination were Pokimane and/or Ethan of h3h3productions, although both parties denied any involvement. Calvin later moved to his second channel, LeafyIsntHere, where he uploaded multiple videos regarding everything that happened. On August 23, 2020, the LeafyIsntHere channel was terminated for ban evasion. In a later DramaAlert video, Calvin went on to explain that he would be moving to Twitch.

Twitch suspension

Before Cqlvin's Twitch account was terminated on September 11, 2020, he had over 281,000 followers and averaged 10,000 live viewers. Shortly before he was banned on Twitch, the LeafyVODS YouTube channel had every single video taken down by YouTube and was also later terminated for ban evasion. Calvin was permanently banned on Twitch due to "Engaging in hateful conduct and threats of violence against a person or a group of people".

Twitter suspension

Rip leafy on Twitter

Calvin's Twitter account after it was terminated on April 16, 2021.

On April 16. 2021, Calvin's Twitter account @Leafy was suspended from the platform. His old account @LeafyIsHere is still up due to it being reinstated, but Leafy had no acess to it. On December 14, 2021, Calvin's old Twitter account that had been lying dormant since May 2017 had been reinstated and he was able to regain access to it once again.

Calvin would later make a tweet saying that he missed YouTube and teasing potentially creating another account[21], later replying to the aforementioned tweet saying that he might move to Dailymotion, and would later tease a podcast[22].

On May 5, 2022, Calvin's old Twitter account, @LeafyIsHere, had gotten suspended. Many believe that this was due to a tweet he made asking a presumably controversial anti-Semitic question.[23] This left Instagram as one of his only active socials remaining. On April 3, 2023, Calvin's old account has been reinstated again and he has been doing livestreams on rumble.com ever since.[24]

On September 15, 2023, Calvin's old Twitter account, @LeafyIsHere, was suspended once again. This time, the suspension is permanent, making it unlikely for Leafy to ever return to the platform.[25]

Aftermath and attempted comebacks

Fake Second Comeback

On December 3, 2020, a person pretending to be Leafy posted a new video on a YouTube account where he previously uploaded his previous videos after he was terminated.[26] In his latest video titled "Im actually back... (LeafyIsHere)" he announced his "comeback" to YouTube, calling out YouTube's double standard against him. Leafy had not mentioned anything about this channel on any of his socials, all the other videos on the channel are re-uploads of storyfire content or his old YouTube videos and the description states that the channel is not owned by Leafy but is actually owned by his manager leading people to suspect that the account was another fake, which was then confirmed in Leafy's actual second comeback where he talked about how the fake account had got verified, something that even the original account didn't have. How the "Im actually back" video would have been obtained is still a mystery. The imposter account was later terminated.

Actual second come back (Weafy)

On December 23, 2020, Keemstar posted on twitter that Leafy was hired by a company called RedBloom.LLC to be a host and make YouTube videos for their company, and that he was planning on making a video about Pyrocynical and the allegations of Pyro grooming a minor.[27] Leafy then re-tweeted this and put a channel link in his Twitter bio, this link was his new YouTube channel Weafy. The next day on December 24, he put out a new video called ""what really happened to leafy" where he talked about what he did after his YouTube ban and why he got a new account. In the video he mentions that the YouTube channel is only part time and that he should start posting on there soon, he clears up what accounts are not real and also talked about how he has faith in RedBloom.LLC. What's said in the video is then confirmed by the channel description "Leafy is a content creator hired by RedBloom.LLC. This channel is owned by redblooms.LLC".

There are only two links connected to his channel as of December 24, one titled "lol" that links to his merch store and another titled "leafy" which links to his Twitter account. The name Weafy being chosen instead of Leafy is him changing an L to a W (a loss to a win).

On December 28, 2020, the channel was terminated for ban evasion. Despite RedBloom.LLC owning the channel and not Leafy, YouTube still terminated it on the grounds that the channel was used to aid in ban evasion, which is against YouTube rules. Leafy would later say that he was dropped by RedBloom.LLC on Twitter.

Attempted third comeback (Lucky)

On August 29, 2021, Calvin attempted to come back to YouTube despite still being permanently banned from the platform on a new channel called Lucky, on which he uploaded a video simply called "h3h3productions". The channel would get terminated on September 3, 2021 for ban evasion.

Fanbase

Calvin's old fanbase, who often called themselves "Reptilians" or "The Reptilian Brotherhood", was known to often spam videos and channels with comments such as "hiss" and "Kys (kill yourself)" — mostly on videos that Calvin talked about. Around the time when Calvin's channel was first gaining rapid popularity, many of Calvin's old fans spread the phrases "Hissss" and "Leaf a Like" on multiple websites attracting the attention of large amounts of internet users.

Other content creators, and even the infamous hacker group "Lizard Squad" (known for hacking PlayStation Network and Xbox Live on multiple occasions), once tweeted "hiss" to Calvin multiple times, which caused "hiss" to become an inside joke on Calvin’s YouTube channel.

Calvin's old fanbase also had a habit of calling Leafy their "Reptilian Overlord" or simply "Father", "Dad or "Son". Some even called him "Mother", "Daughter" or even sometimes "Femmy" (the name of his female lizard "fursona") because of a joke that he is secretly a lesbian.

Most of his old fans grew up and stopped watching his content. Leafy's new fanbase on Rumble are mostly groypers, neo-nazis, or "edgy" trolls, due to Leafy becoming friends with Nick Fuentes, even though Leafy in 2016 said there was nothing wrong with being gay. Shortly after Leafy drew attention to her, Evalion was banned by YouTube in 2016. Leafy claims gay people and Indians got his YouTube channel removed on a Rumble Livestream, because he said the word "f**got" as a joke a few days before getting banned in 2020, and that's why he said he was homophobic and that's the reason for his new and anti-woke anti-LGBTQ religious fanbase.

As of 2023, Evalion isn't a neo-nazi anymore, and he is married. She criticized Leafy for being friends with Nick Fuentes, she retweeted a censored picture of one of leafy's leaked nudes. Some of leafy's old fans are fans of Evalion's new content on Twitter and TikTok.
