Morgan David King (born: October 13, 1991 (1991-10-13) [age 32]), better known by his initials MDK, is a Canadian DJ born in Vancouver. He is known for his video game-styled soundtracks combined with Dubstep, which he refers it to as "wubstep". However, he also incorporates orchestral sounds into his songs.

About[]

He was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada with his parents. Like most artists, he became interested in electronic music. He stumbled at the beginning, but his work blossomed until he became an internet celebrity.

He joined YouTube in October 2013 and released his debut album Jelly Castle a month later. He then released his follow-up album, Rise, in October 2014. Two years later, after the release of Rise, Fingerbang, one of the songs on the album, was used in the video game Geometry Dash. However, the level was called Fingerdash mainly due to the original name being inappropirate.

On August 15, 2015, Morgan released his single Press Start. The song gained popularity after YouTuber DanTDM used it in his videos. Following the release of Geometry Dash SubZero, its popularity skyrocketed, and is now the most viewed song on his channel, having about 25M+ views as of 2023.

To contribute to the song's fame, Morgan released a VIP mix of the song, a "smooth jazz" remix, and a number of remixes by artists like Dex Arson, Neowing, and Sterrezo.

In 2017 he collaborated with an established artist named, “Teminite” and they created a song called Space Invaders and it remains a popular song today with over 2 million plays on Spotify.

On December 2017, MDK released his third album, Astral Badass. The album incorporates synthwave into MDK's signature sound, and also features future bass songs.

Later In 2020 He collaborated with a not so known artist named, “Treyx” and they created Colour Cannon. Also being MDK’s first color bass song.

After the last two collabs he did with, “Figure” and “Chime” he created another funk song called Cryptofunk. It has a combination of color bass, funk, dubstep, and of course, Wubstep. Recently he hasn’t been on social media for a while, and people assume he is taking a break.

Wubstep[]

MDK created a genre called, “Wubstep”. Wubstep is a combination of Complextro, Chiptune, Dubstep, and Smooth Jazz. It’s a fast pasted genre that only MDK and Nitro use. Wubstep is often referred as 8 bit video gamey Dubstep.
