Jack Conte and Nataly Dawn met in 2006 in Stanford University and started dating shortly after. They formed Pomplamoose in 2008.
They gained popularity through their cover of Beyonce's "Single Ladies" and inclusion in Hyundai's Christmas advertisments in 2010, as well as a viral (and controversial) blogpost written by Conte in 2014.
Most of their early music videos take in the form of VideoSongs, which has two rules :
- What you see is what you hear (no audio-syncing for instruments or vocals)
- If you hear it, at some point you see it (no hidden sounds)
Most of their newer music videos are more conventional in format, similar to a typical music video.
