Alex 'Skyler' Henry (born November 21, 1998) is a YouTube vlogger creating and posting original videos under the username of SkipTheBoringParts. Their channel was first created in the summer of 2012, and since then, they have uploaded over one-hundred videos, consisting of vlogs, Q&A's, edits, and song covers. As of November 10, 2015, Alex's channel reached a milestone of 1000 subscribers and has been growing at a fast rate ever since.
The origin of the username is unknown to the YouTube community, and allegedly to Alex themself, who claims that there is no particular reason behind the choice of screen name.
History
The first video Alex uploaded to SkipTheBoringParts was a cover of Payphone by Maroon 5. This video was followed by 6 more covers of songs by popular artists including Taylor Swift and John Legend. Alex also runs a SoundCloud account named Soundcloud.com/officialskylermusic in which they posted their first EP, 'in the corner of my room', consisting of chiptune melodies and a ukulele song of their own creation. There they also upload covers of songs from a multitude of things, such as the popular television series, Steven Universe. Alex's SoundCloud has become more inactive as their Bandcamp account became the main focus for their music exhibition.
In December 2015, Alex released their first album titled 'chiptune is dead', on their Bandcamp page officialskylermusic. At the same time, they released a single called 'him/her' – a track that had previously been released as a lower-quality recording on SoundCloud. 'chiptune is dead' is currently selling for £4.50 (or £1 for each track), and 'him/her' is currently selling for £1 – there is also the option to pay more for these two items. The music video for 'him/her' was released on March 19th 2016 – a video created at the college where Alex is currently studying.
