Matthew Paul Crawford (born: April 23, 1993 (1993-04-23) [age 30], better known online as Tekking101, is an American YouTube manga reviewer, most known for his reviews of the series One Piece, created by Eiichiro Oda, and formally Bleach, created by Tite Kubo, before that series concluded, both of which were serialized in Weekly Shōunen Jump. He'll also cover other series on occasion, such as My Hero Academia, Hunter X Hunter, Attack on Titan, and Black Clover. He has a second vlog channel called Tekking1001.

History[]

Medieval era[]

When Tekking started his channel back in 2009, he did a series of lets plays of the Medieval games for the Playstation 1. Looking back, he considers those let's plays to be terrible, but has kept them up on his channel to this day because he sees them as learning experiences and valuable parts of his history on YouTube.

Bleach era[]

For 5 years, from 2011 to 2016 when the series ended, Tekking was known as one of the go-to channels on YouTube for Bleach related content, along with TheEliteAce; other people reviewed the Bleach manga, but these two were some of the few which focused almost exclusively on Bleach. He had very few subscribers when he started, but he managed to acquire almost 100,000. In the beginning, he only did chapter reviews, but later on, he would do discussions on the series, including characters, locations, abilities, weapons, etc. He's stated that because of how long he reviewed Bleach, even to this day he has an amazing memory of the series, even the tiniest details, and even in fillers, movies, and OVA's, which most people disregard immediately.

Toriko era[]

After he had reviewed Bleach's final chapter, Tekking did hint on future Bleach related content regarding reviews on a possible future anime adaptation of the series' final arc. Until then, he needed a new manga to review and found Toriko, however the series had stopped abruptly and Tekking was forced to drop it.

My Hero Academia era[]

After Toriko, Tekking started reviewing My Hero Academia, a manga which he had recently gotten into. He did a few chapters but ended this not because he didn't like it, but because he just didn't have fun reviewing it. He did, however, later start doing character discussions on the series, so My Hero Academia is still well represented on his channel.

One Piece era[]

After he stopped reviewing My Hero Academia, Tekking started reviewing One Piece, which is when his channel REALLY blew up. When the end of Bleach was oncoming he eclipsed 100,000 subscribers, but now he has more than 600,000, and many people have said this is partial because he's talking about One Piece, the most popular manga in the world, and also because he tends to upload pretty much every day now.

He not only reviews chapters, but he also does discussions on characters, devil fruits, locations, weapons, concepts, abilities, and other such things, and even does theory-crafting videos on the series, too. Today he occasionally does videos on other manga, such as Black Clover, My Hero Academia, Hunter X Hunter, Attack on Titan, and One Punch Man, but it's primarily One Piece, which is his favorite manga.

Return to the Bleach era[]

In 2018, Tekking reviewed Tite Kubo's one-shot Burn the Witch, which is a series spin-off of Bleach. In 2019, he reviewed the live-action Bleach film nearly a entire year after the film's original release on Netflix. He stated his reasons for waiting so late to review it as being that "in order to appreciate a movie for what it is to be in the future generation, you have to wait exactly 11 months to watch it from its theatrical run."

In 2020, Tekking reported on the news of the Bleach anime returning as well as the upcoming Burn The Witch anime series, which he consecutively reviewed on his channel. In 2021, he reviewed the Bleach one-shot chapter Kubo released, dubbing it "Chapter 687" as a callback to his last Bleach chapter review approximately five years prior.

Other channels[]

Tekking1001[]

Tekking1001 is Matt's other channel, in which he does mainly vlog style videos where he talks about random stuff and tells stories about his life.

Fanmail/Streams[]

Tekking once had a series on his channel called Fanmail Time!, where he created vlogs on his main channel unboxing fanmail from fans and reading their letters. However, once he started streaming on YouTube semi-regularly, he discontinued this series, instead opting to answer fan questions, and unbox their fanmail and packages, during his streams. He also does streams whenever he reaches a 100,000 subscriber milestones. Those streams are the only ones he always uploads to the channel; the others are really a toss up.

One Piece DnD[]

Tekking regularly takes part in a One Piece DnD, along with RUSTAGE, Lost Pause, Briggs, and 2Spooky, with RUSTAGE as the dungeon master. It's on RUSTAGE's second channel, RUSTAGE2. It started on April 12, 2020, and continues to this day, with a total of 69 episodes so far.
