Gabrielle Jeanette "Gabbie" Hanna (born: February 7, 1991 (1991-02-07) [age 33]), also known as The Gabbie Show (formerly Gabbie Hanna), is an American vlogger, musician, actress, and author. She started her career on the short form video service Vine, under the name The Gabbie Show, then started a YouTube channel with the same name a year later.

Personal life[]

Gabbie was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania, United States. She graduated from the University of Newcastle, where she completed a degree in Psychology, Communications and a minor in Economics. After graduating from college, she worked for a marketing company that sold products out of a Sam's Club; she became the top salesperson in the United States for the company and moved to Cleveland, Ohio, to help start a new branch of the company. However, she departed after realizing that they relied on a pyramid scheme.

She later moved to Los Angeles, California, United States to work with Buzzfeed. Later on she would gain fame from her work on Vine account Gabbie continued to work for Buzzfeed but would eventually part ways with the brand to focus on YouTube and Vine.

Hanna has openly discussed her struggles with ADHD, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, C-PTSD, and body dysmorphic disorder.

In an interview with Adam22, she stated she was raised Catholic and believes in God, but does not agree with some Catholic stances, such as on homosexuality and sex before marriage.

On July 3, 2019, Hanna announced she purchased a new house for USA $2.2 million.

It was revealed in January of 2024 that Gabbie Hanna had moved back to her hometown following her break from social media, and had gotten a job as a fitness instructor at her local YMCA.[1]

YouTube[]

Gabbie created her YouTube channel in 2014 as another way to interact with her audience. Since Vine videos were only up to 6 seconds, on YouTube she is able to make longer videos which generally consists of comedy vlogs and music. She would and still makes tag videos with YouTubers and other Viners. She also does Q&As and Story Time videos.

Username[]

When she first started on Vine, Gabbie originally had her real name as her username, but then changed it to The Gabbie Show after she started getting popular, believing that she would not be able to get a job with her name out in the public. The name ‘The Gabbie Show’ comes from when she was younger. Due to the way she acted as a child, she would walk into a room and people would say "Here comes The Gabbie Show" and then made it into a positive message. In November 2017, she changed that username into her current username which consists of her shortened first and real last name for unspecified reasons.

Controversy[]

Joke Stealing[]

On December 23, 2015, YouTube User Doc Reviews posted a video reviewing Gabbie. In the video, he accuses her of stealing 3 jokes from other people and using them on Twitter and YouTube. He then uploaded the video to Reddit, where the video exploded. Gabbie responded in a video on her vlogging channel on May 15, 2016 (about 5 months after). She said that the first two accusations she did not steal, but the last one she admitted to using, but said that it was not intentional.

In the video "2016 was really bad", Gabbie talked about how a podcast humiliated her.

Altercation with RiceGum[]

On March 28, 2017, Gabbie attended a YouTuber party that the popular YouTuber RiceGum was also at and decided to snapchat herself challenging him to a rap battle (as RiceGum is known for posting diss raps on his channel). RiceGum refused, and Gabbie said that "RiceGum doesnt have his ghostwriter today, its fine, I think we can still battle". Her next snapchat was of her saying that RiceGum thought the ghostwriter joke wasnt funny and and shattered her phone leaving afterwards. RiceGum later paid for the phone. He later stated on Twitter that he did not hit her and that she should apologize for the false accusations. After she refused to do so, RiceGum made a diss track about her and uploaded it to his YouTube channel.

Trisha Paytas[]

In early November 2019, Trisha Paytas made a video titled, "WHY I DON'T TRUST GABBIE HANNA", in which they accuse the latter of telling their boyfriend at the time, Jason Nash, that Trisha had herpes. Gabbie Hanna, in a string of now-deleted Instagram stories, admitted that she did, but insists that it was simply out of concern for Jason. She then claimed that Gabi Demartino was the "friend" who informed her of Trisha's situation, and speculated that Trisha had blackmailed Gabi into later taking their side. Hanna has been steadily losing subscribers since the controversy sparked, with over 400,000 having unsubscribed as of May 3, 2020. On May 14, 2020, Hanna made a video addressing the controversy after Jessi Smiles brought the topic up again. She disabled likes and dislikes and the comments were negative.

Altercation with Rachel Oates[]

Rachel Oates reviewed Gabbie Hanna's poetry books and thought it was terrible. When Gabbie wrote her next book, she sent Rachel a copy of it pre-release to hear her thoughts on it, and once Rachel reviewed it and gave her honest opinion on it, saying it was awful, Gabbie resorted to making an Instagram story where she called Rachel a bitch and several other names[2], accusing her of bullying, and tagging her in Instagram so her followers would go and harass her[3]. She also harassed Angelika Oles in a similar fashion[4].

Escape The Night[]

Gabbie Hanna partook in two seasons of the television scripted-reality show Escape The Night created by her friend and fellow youtuber Joey Graceffa. Joey invited Gabbie back for Season 4 after her character's death in Season 2. After the show had been released, Gabbie released a video titled 'Escape The Nightmare' in which she details struggles behind the scenes she had to deal with, pointing to bad working conditions that brought out her ADHD as well as a bad costume that she hadn't agreed too and food which didn't adhere to her diet restrictions. She said in her video that these conditions caused her to often blow up on set and that she shouldn't have joined the show, but was begged too, and all of this led to her character being killed off.

Joey Graceffa and Daniel Preda, a producer, both made videos in retaliation to this, detailing her behaviour behind the scenes from their own point of views. They showed emails and videos with proof such as her not turning up for costume fittings, saying she loved the outfit, not filling out her health forms until the day of filming, the conditions not being terrible, Gabbie swearing at assistants, refusing to turn up for shoots and more. Furthermore, fellow cast members made statements about their being lies in Gabbie's original video, detailing more problems.[1]
