The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (born: September 19, 1974 (1974-09-19) [age 49]) (or simply The Tonight Show and Fallon Tonight), is an American late-night talk show that airs 11:35/10:35 central time on NBC. It is the longest-running talk show to date has aired since 1954. Since February 2014, the show is currently hosted by James Thomas “Jimmy” Fallon. Jimmy was previously a cast member on Saturday Night Live and had his own show called "Late Night" which ran from March 2, 2009 to February 7, 2014 before becoming the show's host.

NBC announced that Fallon has signed a contract to remain as host until at least 2021.[1] The contract for the show was extended beyond 2020,[2] and on May 17, 2021, NBC renewed it for five more years through 2026.[3]

YouTube[]

Their YouTube channel currently has over 2.6 million subscribers and over 13 billion views as of October 2020, making it one of the top 50 most-subscribed and viewed YouTube channels and also one of the most-subscribed YouTube channels in the United States. The channel is the most-subscribed and viewed night talk show YouTube channel.

Segments[]

The show has many recurring segments and games that are played with various celebrity guests. The most popular of these, Lip Sync Battle, was spun off into its own show by Fallon. Other segments include playing charades, Catchphrase, Pictionary or other family style games. Additionally, Fallon and celebrity guests regularly appear in sketches parodying pop culture or political events. These segments normally take place after the monologue, but have occurred as a cold open for the show on a few occasions.

Controversy[]

Rolling Stone published an exposé on the tenure of host David Letterman, alleging misconduct by him, including being drunk on set, yelling at writers, and bullying. The report also noted that writers used dressing rooms as "crying rooms" to release tension, and one staff member admitted to suicidal thoughts during his time on staff. The report also noted that there were nine showrunners in the broadcast's history up to that point.[4] Fallon apologized to his staff after the report,[5] but the controversy was not addressed during the first taping of the show after the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike.[6][7]
